Tips to Make Packing Easier

Packing Tips For Moving

When you are moving, there is lot of Packing tips to keep track of and it’s easy to forget about the little things. (And the big things too!) We understand that it’s stressful, which is why we’ll do everything we can to help make things easier on you. We’re happy to share our expert moving and packing tips with you!

  • Pack one room at a time – don’t combine items from different rooms in the same box. This should help make unpacking as smooth and easy as possible.
  • Label clearly – label the top and side of each box with the name of the room, followed by a brief description of the contents (ie: books, pots and pans, cleaning supplies, etc.). Color-coded tape may help a great deal when unloading and unpacking.
  • Use boxes specifically made for moving – boxes obtained from grocery/liquor stores may not be able to withstand the weight of your items and may also make carrying, loading, and unloading more difficult.
  • Use smaller boxes for heavier items – the heavier the items, the smaller the box you should use to make transportation easier. Likewise, use bigger boxes for lighter items; you can fit more without breaking your back.
  • Don’t stack dishes – stacked dishes are more prone to cracks and breaks. Instead, wrap dishes using packing paper and pack vertically, on their sides.
  • Secure all liquids – remove the tops to any and all containers with liquids, top with saran wrap or a snack/sandwich bag, then replace top to avoid any leakage or spillage.
  • Pack household essentials in a clear, plastic tote – items such as toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels, paper plates, plastic utensils, etc. will be easy to locate and access for immediate use.
  • Pack personal essentials in an overnight bag – items such as a change of clothes, deodorant, toothbrush & toothpaste, etc. will be at your disposal at any point in the move.
  • Use your cell phone camera to document the wiring/setup of your electronic devices – this should make hooking these items back up stress-free!
  • Use storage items such as luggage and baskets to pack items in – since you will have to move these items anyway, take advantage of the extra space.
